Our Lady of Perpetual Help Comes To the US: Boston's Basilica
After showing you the Church of St.Alphonsus Liguori in Rome where the original icon of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help is enshrined, I am now introducing the first place where a copy of the original icon was enshrined in the United States.
Boston's Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a magnificent edifice with a rich history. The Redemptorists built the original church in 1870 and the first copy of the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was enthroned there in 1871. The basilica website has a beautiful photo timeline telling the history of the church and shrine.
The Redemptorist fathers kept track of the healing miracles that occurred through Our Lady's intercession in their annals titled The Glories of Mary in Boston which is available as a PDF online. I set the link to the chapter "A Lourdes in the Land of the Protestants" because I loved the story told there but also because the chapter title reminds us that Catholics were not very well accepted in the US at that time.
Read and marvel!
May Our Lady of Perpetual Help bless you,
