The Pilgrimage

An ancient Carpatho-Rusyn traditon, the annual pilgrimage at the shrine takes place in August in honor of the feast of the Dormition ( Assumption) of the Mother of God. Exact dates vary from year to year. They are displayed in the header above as soon as they become available.

Carpatho-Rusyn/ Ruthenian/Byzantine

The three  terms apply to  the same group of people here in the US. Carpatho- Rusyn who immigrated to the US received the anglofied name  Ruthenians. Their church, the Ruthenian Catholic Church is called the Byzantine Catholic Church in the US only.

The Icon

The story of the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is long and eventful. It involves a journey from the Mediterranean island of Crete to Rome where Our Lady experienced periods of much public veneration alternating with a long period of oblivion. Copies of the original icon were spread all over the world. Our shrine contains one of them. This site talks about the original icon and also about the mosaic in our shrine.
